Can I only allow one sign-in method? How can I merge a member's profile?

Key Identifier

Quality data will help you not only grow your member base, but also generate potential revenue by targeting them efficiently.

For a customer to create a profile with your business or for your business to retrieve a member's profile, a key identifier is required. Eber allows businesses to gather two key identifiers, and access to a profile requires at least one of them:

  • Mobile Number

  • Email Address

Each identifier has advantages and disadvantages; here is a quick overview of what you can expect:

Types

Advantages

Disadvantages

Mobile Number

  • All mobile number sign-ups and changes are authenticated by Telco OTP.

  • Great for SMS campaigns.

  • Members can sign in using their mobile phone number.

  • SMS costs are incurred with each sending. (Every 70/160 characters equals one SMS).

Every country SMS cost is variable, you may find out your cost by selecting your country code from the dropdown list in "SMS Pricing" .

Email Address

  • All email sign-ups and changes are authenticated by email OTP.

  • Great for email campaigns.

  • Members can sign in using their email address.

  • No cost involved.

  • The user's email provider may flagged your email as spam.

It is recommended for businesses to collect both data. This not only allows your members to login using both methods, but also assists in tidying up your existing data.

When you allow both key identifiers during registration, Eber is smart enough to recognise duplicate entries if a member has already registered with one of the key identifiers.

E.g, Member A

  • Mobile Number: 012-3456789 (Registered), 013-9876543 (Secondary)

When Member A tries to register using 013-9876543 and abc@gmail.com, the system detects an existing profile and prompts Member A to login.

Similarly, if Member A tries to register using xyz@hotmail.com and 012-3456789, the system will recognise an existing profile and prompts Member A to login as well.

For businesses that prefers to collect only one key identifier can do so as well.

Simply navigate to People > Profile Fields Settings > Hover down to "Basic Info", click the "Pencil" icon for the key identifier you want to disable > Choose the "Hide" checkbox > Hit [ Save ], and you're done!

Just keep in mind that Eber does not have a merge function. If you have a duplicate member profile, you must manually transfer/key-in the data from one profile to the next.
